I remember her tall and imposing posture. I recall how relieved she looked when I informed her in January of my freshman year that I was changing my major from nursing to English. I was her worst nightmare in anatomy class.

I met David Carlton (MSM '72) parents weekend my freshman year. We started dating shortly after. After Joes closed I tried another college and after 1 semester I left. In 1973 we married. Subsequently we had two girls. I eventually completed my degree while working with the help of David and the girls (they did housework while I studied).

We now have 5 grandchildren between 5 and 14 years old who have us wrapped around their fingers. We just celebrated our 38th anniversary.

I had to go to Maryland to find a perfect partner that lived 20 miles from my home in Massachusetts.

Please pray for my elderly parents. I just moved them to an Adult Care Home. My Father is having loss of control issues and adjusting poorly. My Mother is doing fine.

Sister Juliana really worked hard to teach us Anatomy. She brought all those animal bodies in for us. I remember sacrificing guinea pigs so we could see peristalsis. That background stood me in good stead when I had to overcome squeamishness as a lab assistant to the head of the Biology dept at Univ of Virginia as I worked to support us while husband Bob Beer studied for his MBA.

The list of clothing we were told to bring during the Summer of 1964 before entering Freshman year included "dafs" - dressy, attractive, flats! Today I pretty much live in dafs. And yes - I still have my blazer - intact.
(Of course it doesn't fit.)

When I told my children that I never owned a pair of jeans until I was 22 they are convinced I went to a finishing school. I didn't mind being "finished". They were a wonderful four years!
